Fun, Easy-to-hold Design

The book pal's quirky shape and animal-like appearance attracts a toddler's attention, and the large curved design makes it easy for tiny hands to hold. With its durable exterior, the book pal can withstand a toddler's rambunctious use over many years and is easy to clean with a damp cloth. The book pal's optical reader is cleverly tucked into the bottom portion to protect the sensor.

Good Sound and Simple Control Features

A volume control button with low and high settings is located above the speakers on the front side of the book pal, while a conveniently placed on/off button is on the side. The speakers provide good, clear sound with little distortion.

The batteries and USB port are safely stored behind a compartment that closes with a screw. A battery guard strap firmly holds the batteries in place. As a battery-saving feature, the book pal will turn off automatically after a period of inactivity.

Included Books Make Learning Fun

This reading system comes with nine books, each with colorful illustrations and interesting narratives that appeal to young children and boast thick, durable board book construction. The storybook titled "If I were..." comes preloaded on the book pal, so as soon as you load two AAA batteries (not included) into the reader, the story can begin. The book pal can store up to five books at one time.

Seven other engaging ready-to-read board books are included as well as "Scout & Friends," a book which teaches children about friendship and sharing. These books require an Internet connection to download the audio.

Exploration with Every Touch

This reading system can engage toddlers for hours. Simply touching the book pal to one of the books initiates 1 of 130 audio responses and engages children in 1 of 24 book-based play activities. The book pal's responses range from songs and sound effects to open-ended questions and amusing sentences.

Toddlers can spend hours playing and exploring the different responses found on every corner of the book. In many cases, they'll hear different responses even when they touch the same spot in a book, encouraging toddlers to explore the book over and over again.

Download, Store, and Carry Books

The LeapFrog Connect application allows you to download audio to the book pal. Connect the USB cable (included) to a computer, and from the LeapFrog Connect site, you can print activity sheets for additional activities and learning. You can also personalize the reading system with your child's name, so the book pal can incorporate it into its greeting and farewell phrases.

In order to download the book pal's audio feature, you will need a computer that has 512MB of RAM and 300MB of free disk space. The download process is straightforward and the additional resources on the LeapFrog connect site are well worth it.

An included house-shaped storage case is designed to hold the book pal and up to four books. When it's time to clean up or take story time on the road, the storage case provides a safe and organized home for the reading system.
